The cost of living crisis is firmly on our doorstep and with 1 October looming ever closer, we’ve been going through the finances.
This is never easy, especially when you have ADHD and work full-time, but I’ve been determined to cut back as much as possible so money can go further.
As my son and I are disabled, we have more outgoings or spend more money than someone who isn’t. Things that are a requirement for us, might not be for you - or we might need something that has “special needs” slapped on it and it triples in price.
But I digress - this week I’ve been going through cashback apps to see how it could benefit us. ‘Coz if we spend more, we might get more back.
This is not a saviour for the cost of living crisis - this is something that might help us when we’re short some months. It’s already worked today.
TopCashBack
This is for all of you that mainly shop online - the in-store rewards are very limited. I had opened an account with this website many moons ago and forgot about a switchover I did for a utility bill and some Pets At Home purchases.
Well, I signed in today for £49. Just sitting there, waiting for me.
You pay a £5 fee a year to use TopCashBack, so that gets taken off any money you withdraw from your wallet.
I decided to make an eGift card rather than do a bank transfer, as you can get an extra reward for choosing certain retailers. I chose Tesco, which had a 5% cashback reward on top of it. I’ll be using it for the big monthly shop this weekend.
Airtime Rewards
Mobile phone bills are one of those expenses that always surprise me, even though I pay it every single month. So the idea that there’s a cashback app that helps you reduce your monthly or PAYG phone bill is very appealing to me.
Download the app onto your phone and add your card details. Then whenever you spend more in certain retailers, you get cashback that can be added as credit to your mobile phone bill.
All major networks in the UK are supported so it’s a win-win.
Kidstart
Children cost us a lot of money, so how about we get some cashback for their savings accounts? This is what Kidstart does.
Some of the popular retailers include Aldi, AO.com, Booking.com and some lush beauty brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, Cowshed and Space NK.
As we’re coming up to Back To School season, worth pointing out that George at Asda is on there… and Clarks…
What other cashback apps to you use? How do they work for you? Let us know in the comments.
