What to expect from Issue 4
We give you an insight into what's underneath our snazzy cover on our print edition
Words: Sophia Waterfield
We’re taking a break from this week’s editorial.
It's a busy week at Paranting HQ—we're finishing off Issue 4!
The theme for this edition is Black parents and we've decided to launch it during Black History Month USA.
We originally wanted to launch during Black History Month UK, but unfortunately due to the fun life of an independent publishing company, we couldn't.
While you wait, you can pre-order your copy here.
So what can you expect from Paranting Magazine Issue 4?

Cover star interview with "Kill the Bill" and "Black Lives Matter Merseyside" founder, Chantelle Lunt
We're so excited about this month's cover star. Chantelle Lunt (34) is based in Liverpool and has played a role in activism since her first role at Liverpool City Council when she was 17.
But she was met with racism and sexism when she joined the police force.
Since leaving the police, Lunt has gone on to found Black Lives Matter Merseyside and Kill the Bill. She has shared platforms with Jeremy Corbyn and has led protests across the country.
And she's a mother. How does she juggle everything?
You can find out in Issue 4.
Profiles on Black-owned businesses
We've dedicated space within our magazine to profile businesses owned by Black entrepreneurs.
Minority businesses make up a sixth of the six million businesses registered in the UK. They employ almost three million people (2019–20).
These owners bring unique propositions to people in the UK (and beyond) and often put so much labour into educating white people about privilege and inclusivity.
You can see which Black-owned businesses we include in Issue 4.
Fashion editorial: Afro-goth
Way back in autumn 2021, I asked a friend, who is Black, what she wanted to see from a fashion editorial for Black parents.
Where did Black parents or, people in general, need to see representation?
She said: "Black goths."
So many Black people see casual racism or unconscious bias when they go to rock clubs. My friend said that people have asked her: "Are you in the right place?"
So we have not only dedicated our fashion editorial to my friend's ide—she, and her gorgeous son, are our models.
You can see which brands we have included in our fashion editorial by reading Issue 4.
Hidden figures
History is normally, if not always, viewed with a white lens. We wanted to change that in this issue of Paranting.
Freelancer Nweke "Barry" Ugochukwu writes about five of the hidden figures from US STEM history.
How many do you think you've been taught about in school?
